Sandy Zuckerbrot co-founded Sholom & Zuckerbrot Realty in 1962 and has been active in commercial and industrial real estate for 49 years in the Metropolitan NYC Marketplace. He is an active member of The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR). Throughout his career, Sandy has been a pioneer in the revitalization and adaptive-reuse of commercial properties. In his early years, he was active with the development of Maspeth farmland into the bustling modern distribution center it is today, assisting companies such as United Parcel Services (UPS), Cerro Wire, Coca Cola and Schaffer Beer. On behalf of the Tisch family, owners of the Bulova Watch Company, Sandy orchestrated the sale of their former 25 acre industrial complex near LaGuardia Airport to Edward Blumenfeld. He also directed a highly successful leasing campaign on behalf of Blumenfeld Properties for this Class A office re-development project, securing British Airways for a 275,000 square foot office and reservation center. Sandy, with great foresight and financial assistance, became a Founding Member of the Long Island City Business Development Corporation in 1979. He has been involved with numerous important transactions within the community, including the development of 25 acres of land along Northern Boulevard on behalf of Penn Central Rails. Many years later, a 7 acre parcel that had been built for Charles Printing was re-sold by Sandy and his team to Phil Pilevsky for the development of the 150,000 square foot Plaza 48. Anchored by Pergament Stores and Toys R Us, this was the first significant open-air shopping center to be built in Western Queens. During the mid 1990’s, Sandy continued the retail conversion trend with the structuring of a complex ground lease transaction on behalf of Forest City Ratner Companies to re-develop the Gallo Wine Distribution property into The Shoppes at Northern Boulevard – a 250,000 square foot retail center anchored by Stop N Shop, Old Navy, Kids R Us and Conway Stores. In recent years, Sandy played a key role in the sale of the former Swingline Stapler factories to owner/developer Stellar Management and The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). Today, the 3-story 285,000 square foot complex is an active commercial center complete with a rooftop health club and 7 indoor tennis courts and serves as an important landmark for Long Island City. In addition to Sandy’s activities as Chairman of Sholom & Zuckerbrot, he is involved with various local organizations and charities. He serves as a Board Member of The Gurwin Geriatric Center, has been a Chairman of UJA Industrial Division, and former Board Member for the Lexington School for the Deaf and currently participates in supporting charities including PS1, Queens Child Guidance Center and many others.
